„It’s about artificial imagery that emphasizes the interplay between imagination and reality, creating a visual journey where the tangible and fantastical blur.“

Overview

As I stand before the burning bush, I’m struck by its mesmerizing dance of flames, yet its leaves remain untouched by the fire’s fury. It’s a sight that defies logic, stirring something deep within me—an experience that transcends the ordinary. In its flickering light, I see more than just a bush; I see a reminder of the delicate balance between humanity and the natural world.

„Footsteps with no trace.“

How we perceive the world involves diving into the nuances that shape perception, unravelling the intricate connections between individual viewpoints, societal influences and the narratives portrayed by the media. By looking at how each person, society, and the media affect what we think, whose ideas are heard the most and how they shape what we believe is true influencing our collective interpretation of reality.

„Challenging dominant narratives.“

Thoughts, desires, fears, and memories.

Fiction creates visual narratives that reflect reality and yet transcend it, as these scenes tell stories based on reality and fused with fantasy through AI, creating a unique interpretation, like a movie based on a true story.

Perception asks how we reflect on ourselves in the context of the outer world, shaping and being shaped by our viewpoints. It explores the limitations of our perspectives and the need for imagination to see the whole picture.

Adaptation is about reinterpreting the familiar – be it from books, films, historical events, places, movements, styles or ideas – and putting it in a new light. By focusing on both the present and the past, it opens up the possibility of new perspectives that are relevant to us.

Surrealism is the  natural companion of AI, transcends traditional photography by liberating imagery from the confines of physical existence. With no fixed perspective of human presence, AI-generated visuals exist only as phantasms of reality, embodying the surreal.

Traces of Transience

Imagery that brings to life scenes grounded in reality. These visuals seamlessly blend known realities with imaginative elements, aiming for an inside view to experience the real. These images are interpretations of reality, reflecting our understanding while transcending the need for physical witnessing.

Dreams are more than just aspirations; they embody hope, pushing individuals forward despite the obstacles they encounter. These whispers of our deepest desires urge us to go beyond the confines of reality, reaching for the stars. In Cuba, where reality often merges with fantasy, dreams weave through daily life as threads of resilience. They drive every step, every note, and every word spoken against the status quo. Alongside thoughts, desires, fears, and memories, dreams shape the fabric of our existence, guiding our actions and coloring the world with imagination and insight.

In Cuba, young people navigate the tricky waters of early sexualization and a strong macho culture that shapes their views on love, relationships, and self-identity. Machismo, with its emphasis on dominance and conquest, pressures them to stick to traditional gender roles. As a result, finding true romantic connections becomes a complicated journey for Cuban youth as they try to redefine love and intimacy in a society influenced by machismo.

The phrase „No Man’s Journey“ takes on a poignant meaning when applied to the perilous voyages undertaken by Africans attempting to reach the Cape Verdean Islands but never arriving. This phenomenon speaks to the harsh realities faced by migrants and refugees who embark on treacherous journeys in search of safety, opportunity, or a better life. Their journeys end in tragedy, their dreams of a better life dashed by the unforgiving sea.

Perception

Perception is rooted in our subjectivity, yet paradoxically experienced as our objective world. It shows how knowing changes what we see, while not knowing changes who we are.

„How we perceive the world involves diving into the nuances that shape perception, unravelling the intricate connections between individual viewpoints, societal influences and the narratives portrayed by the media. By looking at how each person, society, and the media affect what we think, whose ideas are heard the most and how they shape what we believe is true influencing our collective interpretation of reality.“

„Shame; shame is hidden in me, and I, I hide myself in it. Growing up, this invisible weight made me constantly doubt my worth and abilities. I became obsessed with perfection, fearing judgment at every turn. Overthinking everything, from my appearance to my actions, I was always worried that I wasn’t measuring up. This hidden shame led me to withdraw from others, isolating myself to avoid any chance of criticism or rejection. Shame was like a shadow that cast my face, and it is so hard to see the light.“

The warmth of the shy smile spreads through every fiber of our being. When you experience your first love, you touch the first time, the sense of purpose and destiny. It is a chapter written in the language of youth, a journey of self-discovery and belonging. It is here that our odyssey takes its course, as adolescent love shapes our sense of self forever. Amidst the experiences and emotions, the highs and lows, our reflection is formed and our value in the world is defined. Through this love, we begin to understand the irreversibility of life, the understanding that every heartbeat moves us forward on our journey.

Adaption

With each adaptation, a new perspective emerges, seen and understood in its own way. It’s through this ongoing process that adaptation shows its value, allowing ideas to evolve and new paths to be explored.

„Silent Oppression“ encapsulates the paradoxical nature of Lolita’s character. Dolores Haze embodies a childlike innocence, yet Humbert’s perception and potential awakening of her sensuality introduce a complex interplay between her purity and burgeoning maturity. The erosion of her innocence is depicted as a gradual process, subtly foreshadowing the heartbreak and turmoil that lie ahead in her future. This phrase underscores the central theme of Vladimir Nabokov’s novel „Lolita,“ written in 1955, illustrating the delicate balance between innocence and experience and the inevitable consequences of their collision.

Studio 54, the glittering gem of New York City’s nightlife scene back in the day. A disco ball the size of a small planet, tunes blasting hits like „Stayin‘ Alive“ so loud you could feel the bass in your bones, and dancers busting moves that would make John Travolta jealous. It was like a fever dream of polyester and platform shoes, with sequins sparkling brighter than a disco ball on steroids. Folks lined up around the block just to get a glimpse inside this glittery paradise, where the hustle wasn’t just a dance move, it was a way of life. Shimmering outfits that could blind you if you stared too long, shoes so high they should come with a warning label. Studio 54 wasn’t just a nightclub, it was a time machine that transported you straight into the heart of the ’70s, where the only prescription for the fever was more disco!

In photography, the influence of classic masters like Helmut Newton and Peter Lindbergh is unmistakable, particularly in their portrayal of women. Their images exude both luxury and decadence, as well as cultivated distinction. Each moment they capture feels exceptional and unique. Through their lens, women are depicted with power and allure, embodying both sensuality and sophistication. This portrayal not only adds to the narrative ambiguity of their work but also invites viewers to explore the complexities of femininity. As we immerse ourselves in their photographs, we’re transported to a world where every moment is imbued with meaning and significance.

Project Mapping

Imagery is elevated to the level of a theatrical performance. A picture serves as a stage, where themes and stories are condensed into captivating scenes, unconfined by reality. Like actors on this visual stage, elements come together in collages and layers, aiming to create a compelling narrative that unfolds before the viewer’s eyes.

In the age of relentless consumerism that shapes our perceptions of happiness, material wealth often masquerades as the key to contentment, Marcus Aurelius’s timeless wisdom encourages us to rethink our priorities and to move beyond the pursuit of possessions and delve into the cultivation of inner virtues. Amid the barrage of advertisements and the allure of consumer goods, our constant occupation of self optimization, these dialogues prompt us to recognize the fleeting nature of external desires. They urge us to turn inward, exploring self-awareness and seeking fulfillment through wisdom, virtue, and ethical living. In a consumer-driven culture that can breed dissatisfaction, Marcus Aurelius’s teachings remind us that happiness isn’t something to buy—it’s a state of well-being nurtured by a life in harmony with our true values.

In a world where solace and compassion intersect, resilience emerges as our guiding light. Through moments of introspection, we uncover the quiet truths that nurture our inner peace. Simultaneously, we embrace the radicalism of compassion, reaching out to others with empathy and understanding. In this delicate balance, we find strength, healing, and the power to overcome life’s challenges.

In a world spun from dreams and illusions, Clowns with painted smiles challenge our confusions, Harlequins dance, in jest, they rebel, Jokers laugh in chaos, where norms they quell. With candy colors, they paint the stage, Figures of antipode, society’s cage. In their whimsy, we glimpse truth’s reflection, a kaleidoscope of human imperfection.
